MARY C. SUTTER

Mary Sutter participated in the conceptualization of Equipoise and joined the company one month after it was founded, whole-heartedly sharing the desire to balance work and home life. Working for a company that boasts such a philosophy has given Mary the opportunity to volunteer in her community. She has served on a local Restoration Advisory Board (for toxic clean up), a district-wide Integrated Pest Management Committee for schools, and on the Governing Board of a local charter school. Mary also coaches track & field for high school students.

Over the past fifteen years, Mary has evaluated a wide range of energy efficiency programs and has facilitated public workshops. Her evaluation experience includes the use of program theory and logic models to manage impact, process, and market assessment studies.
She has performed residential, nonresidential, and agricultural sector data collection and analyses and possesses a broad knowledge of the most effective methods used to evaluate energy efficiency programs. On the residential side, she has analyzed new construction, lighting, HVAC, window treatment, low-cost measures, ceiling insulation, and water heating impacts. Her nonresidential analyses include emerging technologies, HVAC, industrial compressed air, lighting, refrigeration (industrial and commercial), cooking, solar water heating, and service hot water heating. In the agricultural sector, she has analyzed pump testing and repair, energy efficient motors, low-pressure sprinkler nozzles, micro-irrigation systems, green houses, and ornamental nurseries. Mary holds B.S.Ed. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Missouri and an M.S. in Civil Engineering (Building Systems Energy) from the University of Colorado. She is currently President and majority shareholder of the company.

TIMOTHY O. CAULFIELD
Tim Caulfield founded Equipoise Consulting Inc. in 1996 expressly to create a company that allowed balance between consulting work and home life. Equipoise has successfully met this objective for nearly a decade. After living most of his life in California, Tim recently moved to Vermont, where he continues to follow the Equipoise creed of energy efficient living, though his office window now has a view of hawks, deer, and bear rather than squirrels, dogs, and cars. Much of Tim’s professional career has been spent in energy conservation, energy efficiency, research and development, and process design and implementation. He has directed and managed energy conservation and Demand Side Management projects for public and private utilities; local, state and federal governments; and private financial institutions. He has facilitated energy-related public workshops and authored follow-up reports. Over the past eighteen years Tim has worked extensively with California utilities developing energy savings estimates acceptable to the California Public Utilities Commission.

He has worked with a coalition of state and private entities in the practical application of evaluation techniques. He has directed evaluation projects covering the full spectrum of customer sectors and project types, including residential new construction, residential audit, agricultural, commercial/industrial lighting, refrigeration and motors, and comprehensive commercial retrofit programs. Tim has more than 30 years of multi-task project management experience in the US and Europe. He holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. He is currently the Vice-President and minority shareholder of the company.
